Massage for Gamers and Heavy Screen Users: Hands, Wrists and Neck

26 September 2026 · 3 min read

A long gaming night, code finished against a deadline or hours of design work… As screen time grows, so does the load of the body's small but constantly repeated movements. In this article we share massage for gamers and heavy screen users and daily habit tips.

The Body at the Screen

  • Hands and fingers: Thousands of small repetitions on keyboard, mouse and controller.
  • Wrists and forearms: Wrists held still and forearm muscles constantly working.
  • Shoulders: Raised by arms reaching to the desk.
  • Neck: A head reaching towards the screen.
  • Back: Hours in the same seated position.
  • Eyes: A focal distance that never changes.

How Can Massage Help?

The load of small repetitions builds up unnoticed. Massage can help you notice and ease this tension. Before your session, tell your therapist how many hours a day you spend at the screen and where you feel tension; you can ask for special attention to the forearms and hands.

Which Option?

Small Breaks at the Screen

  • Wrist break: Every hour, open and close your hands and slowly circle your wrists.
  • Forearm stretch: Extend your arm, turn your palm up and down, and gently draw your fingers back.
  • Shoulder release: Lift your shoulders towards your ears, hold for a few seconds and let go.
  • Eye break: Every 20 minutes, look into the distance for 20 seconds.
  • Get up: Walk for a few minutes between matches or tasks.

Ergonomics

  • The top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level.
  • Elbows bent at about 90 degrees, shoulders relaxed.
  • Wrists in a neutral position, not hovering.
  • Feet flat on the floor; use a footrest if needed.

When to See a Doctor

If you have numbness or tingling in your fingers that gets worse at night, reduced grip strength, wrist swelling or increasing pain, see a doctor before having a massage. These can be signs of nerve compression or tendon problems.
