How Is Volcanic Hot Stone Massage Performed? The Relaxing Power of Heat

23 September 2026 · 3 min read

Remember how your body relaxes when you hold a warm cup in your hands on a cold day. Volcanic hot stone massage spreads that simple but powerful feeling across the whole body. Heated basalt stones are used both as an extension of the therapist's hands and placed on specific points so that the muscles soften slowly.

Why Volcanic Stones?

The stones used in massage are usually basalt. These volcanic stones are known for their smooth surface and their ability to hold heat for a long time. Because they release heat slowly and evenly rather than suddenly, they create a deep sense of warmth without discomfort on the skin.

How Does the Session Flow?

Volcanic Hot Stone Massage at O'SPA Sky lasts 60 minutes.

  • Preparation: The stones are brought to the right temperature; the therapist checks the heat first on their own hand, then on your skin.
  • Placement: Some stones are placed along the back, in the palms or between the toes to warm the body.
  • Massage: Long, flowing strokes are made with oiled stones. The heat helps the therapist's pressure reach deeper into the muscles.
  • Closing: The session ends with gentle hand movements as the body slowly returns to its normal temperature.

If the heat feels like too much, just say so; the temperature and placement time of the stones are adjusted immediately.

Who Is It For?

  • People who feel cold in chilly weather, notice stiffness in their muscles and love to relax with heat
  • Those who don't enjoy deep pressure but feel a light massage isn't enough
  • Anyone who wants to slow down their mind during stressful periods and fall asleep more easily

Who Should Be Careful?

Heat is not suitable for every body. Hot stone treatment may not be recommended during pregnancy or for people with high blood pressure, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, varicose veins, skin sensitivity, open wounds or a recent injury. If any of these apply to you, consult your doctor before booking and be sure to tell your therapist. A more suitable alternative, such as Swedish Massage, may be recommended.

Can You Combine It With the Sauna?

Because hot stone massage already warms the body, long sauna sessions beforehand are not recommended. A short shower or a few minutes in the steam room is enough. After the session, rather than moving suddenly into a very cold environment, it is best to rest in the Relax Lounge and drink plenty of water.

How You Feel Afterwards

Most of our guests describe a heavy, warm and deep sense of relaxation after hot stone massage. That is why keeping your schedule light afterwards, and choosing an evening slot if possible, extends the effect.
